Melville Marathon to be Held at Mystic Seaport

Moby-Dick to be read aboard Charles W. Morgan

Mystic, Conn. ~ All 135 chapters of Herman Melville’s Moby-Dick will be read
in 24 hours at Mystic Seaport’s annual Melville Marathon beginning July 31
at noon.

The reading begins when a roleplayer, portraying Melville, will recite the
first chapter on the performance stage next to the Charles W. Morgan, the
last wooden whaleship in the world.

The reading then moves aboard the vessel, and visitors can sign up to read a
chapter as the marathon continues until noon on August 1, when the event
ends with a cake to celebrate Melville’s birthday.

A few copies of the novel will be available for visitors.

Limited spots are available for those interested in spending the
night aboard the Morgan. Advanced registration is required by calling
860.572.0711, ext. 5075.
