The Bill Memorial Library and the City of Groton will sponsor Art on Groton
Bank, a continuing festival of fine arts on the grounds of the library on
third Saturdays this summer as follows: July 21, August 18, and September
15.
Groton City is thinking Paris, where artists line their work along the banks
of the River Seine to exhibit and sell. In the tradition of Paris, work will
be exhibited along the fences bordering the library property. Painters,
sculptors, graphics artists and photographers are invited. Each will have a
site along the fences or in tents.
During the course of the show, artists may paint on site scenes of Groton
Bank, which encompasses the grounds of the Monument and the Museum, the
Revolutionary War Battlefield at Fort Griswold, and the enchanting Bill
Memorial Library. The Thames River is within sight with its distant view of
New London, as are the hilly streets of Groton City with their wonderful
array of rooftops on period buildings.
Simple French food, coffee and cold drinks will be for sale. The hours are
10 a.m. to 3 p.m. rain or shine. The public is invited to MAKE A DAY OF IT!
In addition to the art event, they are invited to picnic in Fort Griswold,
visit the Bill Memorial Library and the Monument Museum, climb the Monument,
descend the secret path to historic Thames Street.
There is no charge for admission to the art event, nearby parking is free.
Artists who would like to participate are invited to call 860-449-0825 or
email aogbct@aol.com for information or to register for a site.
