New London Main Street Fall Food StrollNew London Main Street, 9/2007 Restaurants and shops will host the fourth annual Fall Food Stroll, Wednesday, Oct 17, from 5:30 to 8:30 pm in New London’s downtown Historic Waterfront District. Over 50 restaurants and shops will offer samples of their most popular dishes, snacks and merchandise specials. The event is organized by New London Main Street and sponsored by the Connecticut Department of Agriculture, Cabot Creamery Cooperative, The Day, Lawrence & Memorial Hospital, Pfizer and the City of New London. The event promises to be the largest and most varied to date.

“Home grown” is the theme of the event. The Department of Agriculture, under its “Farm to Chef” program, will connect restaurants directly with local farmers to ensure the chefs have access to the freshest ingredients. Connecticut produced specialty items will be featured in some downtown shops, boutiques and salons. Cabot will offer samples of its extensive variety of cheeses made with Connecticut dairy products. FRESH New London will be hosting their farmers' tent providing locally grown produce and other selections.

Performers will entertain in various locations throughout the district. The River Gods, the Can Kickers, Second Circle, Craig “Honey Boy” Edwards and the Gallaibh Ceilidh Band, are among those scheduled to perform. The Connecticut Lyric Opera will offer selections from their upcoming performance of La Boheme.

Maps will be provided on stroll night, and a trail of flowering mums and pumpkins will guide participants to the venues. Admission buttons are $25 for adults, $15 for children and students in advance, and $30 for adults and $20 for children and students on Stroll day. Adult buttons include a free drink coupon. The new downtown dining guide will be available at the Main Street hospitality table and in all venues.
