With our 40th Anniversary quickly approaching, I have bittersweet information to pass along. Vin Petrella has officially retired and turned over command of his ship. Vin has been one of the most influential people in the marine industry and one of the greatest men I've had the pleasure to know. I am fortunate to have had him as my mentor. I know I have very big shoes to fill.

The Hellier name has always been associated with quality, service and industry leadership and I vow to carry that flag well into the future. We continue on with what I consider to be the strongest team of people working together and I want you all to know that we're committed to being #1 in sales and service in our market area and beyond.

Verne Ray, our Service Manager is keeping me in line on the service end and will be celebrating his 25th year with the company in March 2008. Cathy Rehbach, a 13-year-veteran continues on as our Office Manager and Chief of "Can do-it-all". Our Sales Department is well rounded with people of various backrounds and extensive experience. Our team includes Teak Bancroft (7 years with us in the service department), John Zomermaand and Bill Conroy.

With every ending is a new beginning. However, if you're not familiar with the new crew here at Hellier's, please give us a call or stop by to say hello!

Please join us in welcoming new brokers, John Zomermaand and Bill Conroy, to the Hellier Yacht Sales team.

John joins the Hellier team with years of professional management experience in the service industry and over 30 years of boating experience both on the Great Lakes and here in New England. If you sail locally, you may find John piloting his Pacific Seacraft 32 Motorsailer "Nouvelle" out of Stonington, CT or meet him at the Stonington Harbor Yacht Club, where he is a member.

Bill, who has worked for Hellier's as a sub-contractor since 1994, comes to the table with a unique perspective gained from learning yachts and yachting literally, from the bottom up and the inside out!

Although having different backgrounds, both new team members share a common trait, their incredible "can-do" attitude. We're sure you will find John and Bill to be as passionate about sailing as you are, understanding of your boating desires and ready to help you achieve them.

Look for them when you visit and extend a hand to say hello. We've attached a picture of the dashing young men so that you will recognize them in the office or on the docks!

A note to my friends,

On September 18, 2007, I officially retired from Hellier Yacht Sales. Although I am thrilled and excited about the prospect of having the time to do many of the things that I have put off for many years, I still have reservations about leaving such a wonderful group of people who have been a part of my life over the last 25 years.

Hellier has been my life but now I am embarking on a new one. Change is never easy; it is fraught with fear of the unknown and what the next days, weeks and months may bring - but it is also challenging and exciting for all who undertake such a move after being devoted to a career for so long.

As you know I leave Hellier in the very capable hands of Rick Dieterich who has proven over the last three years that he possesses that same passion for the business that I did when I first took over the reins many years ago. He and the entire staff understand and embrace the business culture that has established HYS as a leader in customer care and service. I have no doubt that they will continue to carry on that culture and continue to work on making the Hellier experience even better for our customers, friends and business colleagues.

For all of you who have touched my life, and provided me with the joy and satisfaction of being a part of your lives, I say thank you in the deepest and most sincere way possible.
